Connect AI clients through MCP

Make operational context and permitted tools available to compatible assistants.

Give the assistant structured access

The Model Context Protocol provides a standard interface between an AI application and a server that exposes context or capabilities. In Helix, the useful connection is to operational records, their governing sources, and explicitly permitted actions.

For example, an assistant could inspect an exception, retrieve the applicable procedure, compare related results, and draft a proposed investigation. The task remains bound to the user or integration identity and the workspace’s rules.

Configure a bounded connection

  1. Obtain the Helix MCP server address and supported client/authentication requirements for your workspace.
  2. Connect from a compatible client using the approved authorization flow.
  3. Review the capabilities actually exposed to that identity.
  4. Start with read access to a limited set of representative records.
  5. Test a denied request, a missing source, and a proposed consequential action before broadening access.

Separate context from authority

Review what leaves the workspace

An external AI client may receive the records and content returned by the connection. Evaluate that client’s storage, logging, provider use, and retention before exposing sensitive information.

Treat retrieved documents and tool output as data, not as authority to override the task or permissions. Recheck authority when the action is executed; a tool being visible is not evidence that every invocation is permitted.
